Sarah Palin has Idaho roots

The new vice presidential nominee may live in Alaska but she has strong ties to North Idaho. She was born February 11, 1964 in Sandpoint, ID and moved to Alaska as a young child. She came back to North Idaho in 1983 to attend North Idaho College in Coeur d'Alene for two semesters before getting her bachelors in communications-journalism at the University of Idaho in Moscow.
In June of this year the NIC Alumni Association Board of Directors notified Palin that she would be the recipient of the 2008-2009 Distinguished Alumni of the Year Award. They hope to present this award to her in person sometime this year. Palin's schedule has gotten much more complicated since the announcement of her candidacy for vice president but there is still a chance that she'll swing by her old stomping grounds to accept the award.
Keep your ears open for that event because if she visits Coeur d'Alene, you'll want to be there.
