This is primarily an open green space for multi-purpose activities.

Veterans Centennial Park

Size: 16 acres

Veterans Centennial Park is a natural open space with an open field at the south end, and a wooded area in the north end. It is currently undeveloped, but future plans include an arboretum and hiking & mountain biking trails.

Fernan Open Space

Size: 51 acres

The Fernan Open Space is a recent addition to the Coeur d'Alene Parks System and is not currently open to the public. Eventually there will be hiking trails throughout the property with no motorized vehicles allowed. Hunting and camping is not allowed.

Canfield Mountain Trails

East Coeur d'Alene
Size: 24 acres

Canfield Mountain is a Natural Open Space with a hiking & mountain biking trail system. The trail is rated for intermediate difficulty with a some advanced areas. The hiking trail system is 1.5 miles total. Motorized vehicles are not allowed on the main part of Canfield facing the city. Other areas of the mountain have some motorized vehicle trails which are accessible from Suttlers Way.

Periodically the U.S. Forest Service performs controlled burns on Canfield as part of a fuel reduction effort. Such burns have occurred in 2004 and 2007. "Every acre burned now is reducing the risk later for the community," said Sarah Jerome, a fuels planner with the Forest Service about the 2007 burn. Canfield serves as the back yard for many homes in the neighborhoods closest to it, so these "eco burns" are an important part of the public safety process as well as protecting the forest and providing fire fighting crews with practice.

Winton Park

Size: 6.5 acres
Amenities: Scenic trails, 16 horseshoe pits, multi-purpose field, basketball court, drinking fountains, restrooms, off-street parking.

Sunshine Meadows Park

Amenities: playground, restrooms, basketball court, horseshoe pits, volleyball area (bring your own net), covered picnic area.

Sunshine Meadows Park was established in 2008. It has a great playground but, since the park is so new, all the trees are small and provide little shade at this time.
